The private and the political. Another installment.

After a group of 44 asylum seekers managed to walk seven miles into the Channel tunnel that links France and Britain – no small feat, as the walkway along the tracks is only about 3 ft wide -, the company Eurotunnel takes the opportunity to voice its frustration about British government policy:

“We are a private transport company, not a frontier control point. We are spending more and more money on security yet the government, who will not contribute, is simply threatening us with fines.”

If political arguments and protests are not going to change asylum policies in Europe, perhaps financial considerations will.
