The other day, when we were watching Austrian TV news, there was also a report about Afghanistan: scenes of military parades, town streets bustling with people, markets, landscape, men walking about with guns, all in broad daylight.
There was no indication of when these scenes had been filmed, no tiny sign reading “archive material” anywhere on the screen. But it was plainly obvious that the material was not new: It’s highly unlikely that any camera would have been able to film Afghan military parades this week, even if there had been any.
