News from the Makhmalbafs
The Makhmalbaf family in Iran, best known through the films of father Mohsen – whose film “Kandahar”, as we had reported recently, had for security reasons been banned from a small French film festival -, well, the Makhmalbaf family now has its own website: the Makhmalbaf film house.
The page, available in both English and Farsi, is a bit confusing, but, in addition to information about the films that the various Makhmalbafs made or contributed to, also offers political texts by Mohsen Makhmalbaf – the “Weekly News” currently hosts a letter Makhmalbaf sent to Iranian president Mohammad Khatami, proposing a “Project for eradicating illiteracy among Afghan refugee children in Iran”.
