Der Student an sich

... die zwei Studenten am Nachbarkopierer, im Kopierraum, den das Department for Rhetorics und Film Studies mit benützt. Fragt der eine den anderen: “Do you think we ever moved beyond Hegel?” Ich schmunzele, derweil ich einen Text kopiere, der einmal deutlich macht, wie sich gute Studenten richtig verhalten:

“Bowing his head with devotion, he should offer to his master the things which he desires. He offers jewels, treasures, grain, gold and gold pieces, chariots, houses, his own position, his sons, daughters, men and women, villages and cities as desired. He should present his fee with well disposed mind. In short, in oder to achieve a rapid progress, he should offer himself to his master.”

(Skorupski, Tadeusz: engl. Übersetzung des Sarvadurgatipari‚śodhanatantra, Delhi 1983, p. 79)

It was more a rhetorical question, y’know

who knows. if I think someone is talking nonsense, does that mean I have moved beyond him?

and yeah, my teachers can have all the houses, chariots, daughters and villages I own, anytime.
